CGC had a net income of $2,286.22 from January 1 to May 8, 2006. Income came through membership dues ($950), additional money from last fall's Don Sprague Workshop ($250); and Wild Fire 2006 booth reservations ($1,140) for a total of $2,340. Expenses during this time were $53.78 in postage.

Condega Firefighters

It was reported that Bob Sant was collecting mugs for a special event in early May to raise funds for firefighting in Condega ("The City of Potters"), Nicaragua.

Workshop Proposals

Linda presented the following options for future CGC workshop presenters:

1) Gill Harrison.. Can give a slide show on a Friday and teach Sat & Sun. Topics could include: lengthening & expanding clay, attaching using a torch, handles and baskets, form and function, utilitarian and sculpture.

2) Victoria Christen. Hand building pots, painting and attachments on ceramics. she was a presenter a NCECA. Her work can be seen at this website www.dennismeiners.com/Victoria-wrkshp.html She maybe hard to get due to being booked.

3) Thanh Binh Duong. Could teach in January. Part of "Club Mud." Great workshops, gregarious, throws very thin; large forms, tall forms, a bowl in a minute.

4) Jan Edwards. Paints on clay. She is a teacher at Mt. Hood Community College with Don Sprague.

5) Ron Lin..Teach glazing, faceting, throwing. Personal work is woodfired. Work is yummy.

We have no firm $$$ on these presenters...It will depend on how many days they teach, if they have housing when they get here...

Linda is looking for feed back on these folks...Guild members will get a discounted price for the workshop which will be opened to anyone who wants to come. We will probably be looking for a 10-15 person group. We will vote which ones to go for in our next general meeting. Attend and get to vote!!!

Other ideas: visit woodfire anagama kilns? Handbuilders: Jan Retinaur? Sandra Louser?

Justin will work with Peter Meyer to set up dates at COCC.

Pottery Olympics & Empty Bowls Fundraiser

From Helen Bommarito, Chair of the Empty Bowls Fundraiser: "In 2005 Bend’s Empty Bowls event raised over $20,000 through Empty Bowls and the Pottery Olympics! We had such fun at the past Pottery Olympics, and it was successful to boot, so I'm pleased to report that COCAAN will be running the event again this year.

The dates have been set, so mark your calendars now. You can plan it into your summer activities. And to try to provide everyone a chance to participate, it will run on two consecutive First Fridays, coinciding with Bend's Art Walk. The dates are July 7th and August 4th, from 5:00 until 9:00 pm. Location: In front of the Curiosity Shop.

As before, we will be throwing bowls for "Empty Bowls," and the Olympics events will be sprinkled throughout the evening. Be prepared for such popular events as No-Hands Throwing, Big Bowl, Blindfolded Throwing and Partner Throwing.

Also, you'll have an opportunity again to show and sell your own work in the gallery area, with NO commission charged on sales!

I look forward to seeing you there. And if you have any friends who would like to participate, do put them in touch with me so that they can be included in all notices I send out."

Adjourned to tour Eleanor's studio

Eleanor uses horse stall mats from Big R as a mop-able yet comfortable floor covering over cement. The mats are easier on the knees, yet they're hard enough for carts to roll over them. Used the smaller 4ft x 6ft stall mats because they are really heavy to move.

The Minnesota flat-top kiln is set up so its car can be rolled into the studio on smooth-running tracks to be loaded. The car is then pushed through the double doors into the outside shed. In other words, the kiln can be loaded in the heated studio in the winter!

Thanks Eleanor! It was an inspiring tour!
